Gabe Grunewald, on getting much faster after the diagnosis and treatment of her first cancer, while in college. "It’s like I lost all excuses for not pushing myself to reach my fullest potential."
Gabe Grunewald passed away from cancer earlier this week.
When building aerobic endurance one of the cornerstones are medium hard or faster paced aerobic efforts known as tempo runs. These should be done a couple times a week in the base period. Watch the Iona Men's Cross-Country team complete one at Van Cortland Park. The key here is not to go too fast (anaerobic) or too slow.

Okay, we've had our first 100-degree day. I know, I ran in the heat of it! It is a good time to remind ourselves how important hydration is. It should be our goal to drink 3-liters a day, perhaps more if you need it! 2-liters should be your minimum. Read more about hydration here.
In the Men's NCAA DI Steeple Final, both leaders fell with less than 150m to go. But they didn't quit. They got back up and continued. It's really what running (and life) is all about. Read the full story here with video recap.
AJ Hebert was an integral cog in the best boys Cross-Country team to ever represent Saugus. An interchangeable 5-man front-running group that captured the Division II CIF title before finishing runner-up at state in 2010. Know what you're training for and approach each session, each day with a goal in mind. Every day is an opportunity to get better and improve. Give it your all.
Monday: Normal time. 2:15pm at Saugus Track
Tuesday: 7th period. 12:50-2:45pm at Saugus Track. This is mandatory. Failure to show will result in a lowering of your class grade. We will be selecting team captains and handing out our summer training schedules this period after our run.
Friday: OYO or with captains
Saturday: Towsley Canyon 6:30am for a trail run with captains
